Vincent van Gogh, famous for his painted self-portraits, sunflowers and landscapes, was born in 1853 in the Brabant village of Zundert. He only decided to become an artist when he was 27. He created all of his work in 10 years, including 900 self-portraits and 1,100 drawings. Van Gogh was principally inspired by rolling landscapes and rural life.
