This month, is your opportunity to have a peek at the driving force behind the interior blog Sevencouches of Mardou (30). In 2014, she began to share her photos on Instagram, which attracted more than 10,000 followers within two years. Her love for styling is seen in her content and now also in this inside peek. Be inspired and look inside a contemporary home!
From city to village
Mardou lives in a 1969 corner house together with her husband Daniël, daughter Amélie and two cats. One year ago, they moved from the city to a village. "I never imagined that I would ever leave the city, but we came across a house that we could not turn down," says Mardou. The large garden was the decisive factor and this is the place where Mardou often likes to be. "The garden is definitely one of my favourite spot in and around the house - that after all was the reason that we bought this house. Although I enjoy the house and garden immensely, I rarely photograph them. There is still so much to do".
Wood as a trademark
Mardou's description of her interior taste is a white basis combined with wood. As Mardou says: "Wood is my trademark." Sometimes she detours to other home styles, but she almost always returns to the Scandinavian style with vintage touches. "I'm crazy about second-hand items and I often snoop around thrift shops. I don't care much for items that you find in every Dutch home, so I always look for ways to make the things a reflection of myself".
Experimenting with colours
As a teenager, Mardou was already occupied with styling her bedroom. I experimented in a carefree manner, combined orange with baby blue and added various styles to this. When I started living with my partner, I was able to have the time of my life." During the time that she began sharing her photos on Instagram, the interior design of her home changed immensely. Within 5 years they had 6 different couches. "The seventh came along and at the moment - and Sevencouches was born," says Mardou.
The perfect match: Rabbit from Lila and Lola
The IXXI that hangs on the wall of Amélie's bedroom is a cute rabbit from Lila and Lola. "All of my daughter's most loved plush animals are rabbits so that this version of Lila and Lola is a perfect match." Mardou had clicked the IXXI together with Amélie and afterwards hung it up. "When Amélie entered the room, she smothered the rabbit with kisses. That was definitely a sign of approval, if you ask me!"
